I took hold of a rope among Muhammad’s ropes.
I took a rope of Muhammad's ropes
Through it I was safe from the night visitor of time’s calamities.
I felt safe with it from the knocker of events
أَمسكَتَنيyou kept me أَمسِyesterday بالمعروفِwith kindness لاعَدِمَتْmay never be lost
حَالاكَyour two states واليومَand today تَسْرِيحيmy release بإحسانِwith grace
Yesterday you kept me with kindness—may they never be lost,
It held me yesterday to virtue, may it not lack
Your two ways—and today my release is with grace.
Thy state today and my release with kindness
