هُمْ فَارَقُوكَ وَهذهِ الأَوطانُ

هُمْ فَارَقُوكَ وَهذهِ الأَوطانُ

وَلِهُنَّ بَاقي الدَّمْعِ كانَ يُصَانُ

وَلِهُنَّ بَاقي الدَّمْعِ كانَ يُصَانُ

They have parted from you, and here are the dwelling places;

They left you and these lands,

And for them the remaining tears had been saved.

While tears still flow for them.

فَاسْقِ المَعَاهِدَ وارْعَ خفَّهُمْ وإنْ

فَاسْقِ المَعَاهِدَ وارْعَ خفَّهُمْ وإنْ

نَقَضُوا عُهودَكَ غَادِرينَ وَخَانوا

نَقَضُوا عُهودَكَ غَادِرينَ وَخَانوا

So water the familiar haunts and tend their footwear, even if

Keep your treaties though they broke theirs,

They broke your covenants treacherously and betrayed you.

Abandoning you, betraying your trust.

لا تُدخَرُوا الأَجفانُ بَعدَ فرِاقِهمْ

لا تُدخَرُوا الأَجفانُ بَعدَ فرِاقِهمْ

فَلأَي مَعنًى تُذخَرُ الأَجفانُ

فَلأَي مَعنًى تُذخَرُ الأَجفانُ

Do not spare the eyelids after their departure;

Do not spare your eyes from weeping after they left,

For what purpose are the eyelids kept in reserve?

For what purpose are eyes spared from weeping?

وَلَو أنَّهُمْ رَفعوا البَراقِعَ لم يَكُنْ

وَلَو أنَّهُمْ رَفعوا البَراقِعَ لم يَكُنْ

لِيَضّلَّ تَحتَ دُجُنَّةٍ حَيرانُ

لِيَضّلَّ تَحتَ دُجُنَّةٍ حَيرانُ

And had they lifted the veils, there would have been no

Had they but lifted the veils, one would not go astray,

Bewildered soul straying beneath the gloom.

Lost in darkness, confused.
