ولقدand indeed أَدامَmaintained الصَّاحِبُthe lord (al-Sahib) بنُson of مُحمَّدٍMuhammad
ولقد أَدامَ الصَّاحِبُ بنُ مُحمَّدٍ
بَذْلَoffering القِرَىhospitality فىin القَفْرةٍthe desolate wilderness البَيْداءِthe barren desert
بَذْلَ القِرَى فى القَفْرةٍ البَيْداءِ
And indeed al-Sahib ibn Muhammad has kept up
The friend Saahib bin Muhammad
the offering of hospitality in the barren wilderness,
Spent lavishly in the barren desert
ولوand even if أنَّthat فيهاin it حاتِماًHatim مَنَعَwithheld القِرَىhospitality
ولو أنَّ فيها حاتِماً مَنَعَ القِرَى
وغَداand became ابنُson of مَامَةَMamah باخِلاًstingy بالماءِwith water
وغَدا ابنُ مَامَةَ باخِلاً بالماءِ
even if Hatim there were to withhold hospitality,
And if there were in it Hatim who would refuse hospitality
and Ibn Mamah were to become stingy with water.
Yet next morning Ibn Mama would be niggardly with the water
