فَنحنُ مَعَ المَدَى نَجني وَنَجني
I saw the fruits of your pardon hanging within reach;
I saw the bounties of your pardon brought near,
So, as time passes, we reap—and we commit wrongs.
So we, throughout time, harvest and harvest.

And how often the wrongdoer has spent the night with eyes at ease,
How often has the wrong-doer slept with delighted eyes!
While your sword, when you showed forbearance, rested easy in its sheath.
Your sword, when you showed clemency, slept still in its sheath.
