    فَأَنجحَ مِنها عَزْمُها وإيابُها

    Endeavors whose mounts were worn out in God's cause;

So their resolve and their return proved successful.

And a call that stirs longing for pilgrimage sites,

Whose dust is a cure for inflamed eyes.

You braved terror on your way to them through every deep sea,

As though your hands' overflowing bounty were its surging flood.

And it had veiled the face of the open sky, as though

Its edges and its clouds were joined.

As though the deep's green hue matched its sky,

And its shooting star raced alongside the ships upon it.

As though the ships' sails stretched through its air

A wing with which their eagle seeks the sky.

Such were those ships; and the ships of land cleave the desert,

And no deep sea is there, save its mirage coming into view.

As though night travel feeds upon their withers,

Their distant travels and wandering have pared their fat away.

I took it as a good omen, while their footpads bled,

For their dye was a sign of rejoicing.

And a waste that effaces waymarks—its wolf feels desolate

Within it, and its raven dreads estrangement.

Its tracks concealed from every traveler

Who travels in the heart of the army, yet fears it.

As though its stars had not traveled through the darkness there,

Nor had its veil been drawn away from the daytime sun.

So you pressed on until you gained what you sought from Quba,

And you were given glad tidings: "This is Yathrib and its domes."
