مَالي نُسِيتُ وَكُنْتُ مِن
مَحْفُوظِكُمْwhat you have memorized كالفَاتِحَهlike al-Fatiha
مَحْفُوظِكُمْ كالفَاتِحَه
Why have I been forgotten, when I was among
Why have I been forgotten, when I was
what you knew by heart, like al-Fatiha?
Among your protected ones like Al-Fatiha,
وَغَدَتْand she began تُكبلنيto shackle me القَريthe female companion (first part)
وَغَدَتْ تُكبلني القَري
نةُcompletion of 'companion' وَهََيَwhile she عِنْكُمْfrom you نَازِحَهfar away
نةُ وَهََيَ عِنْكُمْ نَازِحَه
And the companion has begun to shackle me,
And estrangement has shackled me, though it
though she is far away from you.
Has departed from you, a departer,
لكِنْbut بَعِيدُdistant الوِدّin affection حَa right (first part)
لكِنْ بَعِيدُ الوِدّ حَ
قُّcompletion of 'right' يَدٍa hand بِطيبwith the pleasantness الرَّائِحَهof the scent
قُّ يَدٍ بِطيب الرَّائِحَه
But one distant in affection has a right
But the beloved of old is truly a hand
to a hand with a pleasant scent.
With a sweet fragrance.
