مسامِعُهمْtheir ears صُمٌّdeaf إذاwhen سُئِلواthey are asked for النَّداgenerosity
مسامِعُهمْ صُمٌّ إذا سُئِلوا النَّدا
وأَلسُنُهمْand their tongues عنfrom مَنطقِspeech الخَيرِgoodness صُمَّتُmute
وأَلسُنُهمْ عن مَنطقِ الخَيرِ صُمَّتُ
Their ears are deaf when they are asked for generosity;
Their ears are deaf when asked to lend
And their tongues are mute when it comes to words of goodness.
Their tongues from speaking good are bent
وأَيديهمْand their hands جَفَّتْhave withered وإنَّand indeed تَعجّبيmy wonder
وأَيديهمْ جَفَّتْ وإنَّ تَعجّبي
لأَظفارهاat their nails مَعْdespite لُبسِهاtheir clothing كيفَhow تَنبُتُthey grow
لأَظفارها مَعْ لُبسِها كيفَ تَنبُتُ
And their hands have withered; indeed, my wonder
Their hands are dry although my wonder
Is at their nails—how do they grow despite their clothing?
Is how their nails still grow thereunder
