    We have found the pale camels better in staying power

    than the curled-tailed ones when they shiver.

    They reach mountains that their mountains have not enabled them to reach,

    and a thirsty wilderness when the sun rises.

    إِذا سَمِعَت أَصواتَها الجِنُّ فَرَّتِ

    Powerful camels, panting through the longest winter night;

    when the jinn hear their voices, they flee.

    When, after mating, their upper chests are darkened like kohl

    with early pregnancy, they guard their remaining milk and glare fiercely.
