Indeed, Ibn Maghrāʾ is a slave who will not match us
The son of Mughira is not our ally
until one who gazes at the sun attains its whiteness.
Until he attains the whiteness of the radiant sun

تَحتَ التُرابِ وَلا تَبلى مَخازيها
The garments of the sons of Saʿd decay when they are buried
The clothes of Bani Sa'd fade when buried
beneath the earth, but their shameful deeds do not decay.
Under the soil, but their values do not fade

Those who eat the food kept in reserve, excluding their guest,
Those who eat the fodder and deprive their guest
and the cooking pot's hearthstones are hidden away;
While the pot is hidden from them in its cases

مَجَّت كَوادِنُ دُهمٌ في مَخاليها
those who spit out date stones beneath their clothes, just as
Those who pick out the seeds from under their clothes
black, coarse-bred horses spit into their feedbags.
As if they were starving camels in their paddocks
