مَخافَةَ جارِها طَبَقَ النُجومِ
I see my camels, their two herdsmen keeping watch in turn,
I see my camels huddling close, fearing
For fear of their neighbor, all through the starlit night.
Their neighbor, as the stars spread their cover.

شَعاعَ الأَمرِ عازِبَةَ الحُلومِ
I have lived as their neighbor, and found Sa'd
And though we camped near them, I saw Sa'd's folk
Disordered in their affairs, their good sense gone astray;
As the new moon's glow, muffled in the gloaming.

أَجَنَّت طَخيَةُ اللَيلِ البَهيمِ
Slow to offer hospitality, heedless whenever
The dwellings of the tribe are like a cloak
The gloom of pitch-black night enfolds them.
That darkness drapes across the land benighting.

So make for your people's land: indeed, Sa'd
O mother mine! For Sa'd's clan your land
Has shouldered the disgraces in Tamim's stead.
Bore brought by Tamim's kin without their fighting.
