غَداةَ الأَحرَمَينِ مِنَ النِجادِ
Did my people's deed delight you or displease you
Did their deeds sadden or offend you?
On the morning at al-Ahramayn, among the uplands?
The day after the two sacred places, from Najd,
كَأَنَّas though الخَيلَthe horses بِالنَحيَينِat al-Nahyayn هَجراhajran: unclear in this reading
كَأَنَّ الخَيلَ بِالنَحيَينِ هَجرا
وَبِالبَقعاءِand at al-Baqʿāʾ رَجلٌa swarm مِنof جَرادِlocusts
وَبِالبَقعاءِ رَجلٌ مِن جَرادِ
As though the horses at al-Nahyayn—[hajran: unclear here]—
As if the horses attacked with rage,
And at al-Baqʿāʾ were a swarm of locusts.
And at Al-Baq'a a man from Al Jarad.

They brought you death at dawn; called out
Death called on you in the morning,
Our herald: 'To water with you—to water!'
Our caller called you and you came back.
