لمن دارٌ عفت بالسارياتِ

لمن دارٌ عفت بالسارياتِ

وَتصريفِ الأُمورِ السائباتِ

وَتصريفِ الأُمورِ السائباتِ

Whose is this dwelling, effaced by night rains

For one whose abode was virtuous with lofty chambers

and the changing course of unchecked events?

And the governance of roving affairs,

ذكرتُ بها المَليحةَ أُمَّ عَمروٍ

ذكرتُ بها المَليحةَ أُمَّ عَمروٍ

وَدَمعي كالسِجالِ الواهياتِ

وَدَمعي كالسِجالِ الواهياتِ

There I recalled the lovely Umm Amr,

I recalled by it the fair one, Umm 'Amr,

and my tears were like leaking water-buckets.

And my tears like the fading tracings.
