وَلَقَد شَهدتُ الخَيلَ تَحملُ شكتي

وَلَقَد شَهدتُ الخَيلَ تَحملُ شكتي

عَتَدٌ أُمِر مِن السَّوابِحِ هَيكَلُ

عَتَدٌ أُمِر مِن السَّوابِحِ هَيكَلُ

And indeed I have joined the horsemen, my weapons borne

I have witnessed horses carrying my burdens

By a sturdy, powerful steed, huge among the swimming steeds.

A magnificent creature commanded by the swimmer's whip

أَما إِذا اِستَدبَرتُهُ فَمُلَزَّزٌ

أَما إِذا اِستَدبَرتُهُ فَمُلَزَّزٌ

وَيزيفه تَصدِيرُهُ إِذ يُقبِلُ

وَيزيفه تَصدِيرُهُ إِذ يُقبِلُ

Now, when I view him from behind, he is compactly built;

Yet when I face its rear it appears clumsy

And his broad chest makes him swagger as he approaches.

Its neighing startles as it approaches

وَكَأَنَّما تَهوي بِبَزّي كُلَّما

وَكَأَنَّما تَهوي بِبَزّي كُلَّما

حَرَّكتُهُ فَهَوى حَثِيثا أَجدَلُ

حَرَّكتُهُ فَهَوى حَثِيثا أَجدَلُ

And with my battle gear he seems to swoop down whenever

As if it would plunge with me whenever

I urge him and he hurtles swiftly, like a falcon.

I spur it on, galloping headlong

وَلَقَد تَرَكتُ القِرنَ في يَومِ الوَغى

وَلَقَد تَرَكتُ القِرنَ في يَومِ الوَغى

وَالنَّحرُ مِنهُ بِالدِّماءِ مُرَمَّلُ

وَالنَّحرُ مِنهُ بِالدِّماءِ مُرَمَّلُ

And indeed I have left my adversary on the day of battle,

I have left the spear behind on battle days

With his upper chest smeared with blood.

My weapons bloodied from the fray

وَإِذا دُعِيتُ إِلى النِّزالِ فَإِنَّنِي

وَإِذا دُعِيتُ إِلى النِّزالِ فَإِنَّنِي

في القَومِ أَولُ مَن يُجِيبُ وَيَنزِلُ

في القَومِ أَولُ مَن يُجِيبُ وَيَنزِلُ

And when I am summoned to single combat, I am indeed

And when called to fight, I am the first

The first among the men to answer and take the field.

Among my people to respond and descend
