لقدindeed طوفتI roamed far and wide فيin الآفاقthe horizons حتىuntil
بليتI have grown worn وقدand already أنىthe time has come ليfor me لوif only أبيدI perish
I have indeed roamed the horizons until
I roamed the horizons until
I have grown worn, and my time has come—if only I could perish.
I was worn out, and wished if only I would perish
وأفنانيand it has worn me away ولاand not يفنىit perishes نهارday
وليلand night كلماwhenever يمضيit passes يعودit returns
And day has worn me away, yet does not perish,
Yet the day exhausts me, and does not perish
and night, which returns whenever it passes,
And the night, as it passes, returns
وشهرand a month مستهلnewly begun بعدafter شهرa month
وحولand a year بعدهafter it حولa year جديدnew
and a newly begun month after another month,
And month after month begins anew
and a year followed by a new year,
Then year after year repeats
ومفقودand one lost عزيزhard to bear الفقدthe loss تأتىhas come
منيتهhis death ومأمولand one hoped for وليدa newborn
and one lost, whose loss is grievous, to whom has come
And the dear lost one returns
his death, and a hoped-for newborn.
As wished for, and new hope is born
