Hudhayl has surely learned that my neighbor,
At the outskirts of Ghaynā on Thabīr,
أَحُصُّill-omened فَلاso not أُجيرُI grant protection وَمِنand whoever أُجِرهُI protect him

Is ill-omened, so I grant no protection; and whoever I protect
Is not like one who hangs on false hopes.

You have your neighbors, and I defended mine,
On equal terms—not with a favored share.
