She resolved to part when she saw me

squandering wealth, while my close companion does not reproach me.

Amassing wealth, welcoming nothing unseemly

ارْبعِي إنَّما يَرِيبُكِ مِنِّي

ارْبعِي إنَّما يَرِيبُكِ مِنِّي

إرْثُ مجْدٍ وَجِدُّ لُبٍّ أَصِيلِ

إرْثُ مجْدٍ وَجِدُّ لُبٍّ أَصِيلِ

Be patient: what troubles you about me is only

My lady, forty springs shouldn't make you doubt me

inherited honor and the earnestness of a sound mind.

I'm heir to glory and paternal grace of soul

عجباً ما عَجِبْتُ لِلْعاقِدِ الما

عجباً ما عَجِبْتُ لِلْعاقِدِ الما

لِ ورَيْبُ الزَّمانِ جَمُّ الخُبُولِ

لِ ورَيْبُ الزَّمانِ جَمُّ الخُبُولِ

How greatly I marveled at one who hoards wealth,

How strange, I'm stunned by one who ties the knot

while time's vicissitudes abound in ruin,

Yet time breeds qualms, aggregating dullards' role

وَيضِيعُ الذي يَصِيرُ إليهِ

وَيضِيعُ الذي يَصِيرُ إليهِ

مِنْ شَقاءٍ أَوْ مُلْكِ خُلْدٍ بجيلِ

مِنْ شَقاءٍ أَوْ مُلْكِ خُلْدٍ بجيلِ

and whatever comes to him goes to waste,

And loss accrues to whomever fortune

whether from toil or splendid, enduring dominion.

Consigns to misery or eternal reign

أَجْمِلِ العيْشَ إِنَّ رِزْقَكَ آتٍ

أَجْمِلِ العيْشَ إِنَّ رِزْقَكَ آتٍ

لا يَرُدُّ التَّرْقِيحُ شَرْوى فَتِيلِ

لا يَرُدُّ التَّرْقِيحُ شَرْوى فَتِيلِ

Live graciously, for your sustenance is coming;

Relish living, your daily bread is sure

careful husbandry will not restore even a date-stone fiber's worth.

No cool wind blows out candles lit aglow
