Who will carry a message from me to Sinān

and Shajnah? Rise, you two; take what is due, or leave it.

I shall spare you the task of laying down my side and pillowing it,

and kill Ashjaʿ if you do not give us our due.

The Rudaynian spears shriek among us and among you,

like the cries of the daughters of the water, grown hungry.

We mingled houses with houses, so they became

our cousins; whoever shoots at them shoots at us too.
