يَزِيدُونَهُ صَوْمًا تَضِيقُ بِهِ النَّفْسُ
Ramadan has arrived, but our notables
Ramadan has come, though our leaders
add to it a fast that weighs upon the soul.
Add more fasting that burdens the soul.
يَصُومُونَthey fast صَوْمَthe fast of الْمُسْلِمِينَthe Muslims نَهَارَهُduring its daytime
يَصُومُونَ صَوْمَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ نَهَارَهُ

They observe the Muslims’ fast during its daylight hours,
They fast as Muslims do in daylight,
and the Christians’ fast when the sun sets.
And as Christians when sunset turns night.
