اللَّهُ أَكبَر كَم وافَت بِشارات

اللَّهُ أَكبَر كَم وافَت بِشارات

وَكَم تَبدت لِتَعظيم إِشارات

وَكَم تَبدت لِتَعظيم إِشارات

God is greatest! How many glad tidings have arrived,

God is Greatest, how many tidings have come

And how many signs of exaltation have appeared,

And how many signs have appeared for glorification

وَكَم تَجَلَت بَراهين وَمُعجزة

وَكَم تَجَلَت بَراهين وَمُعجزة

وَكَم تَوالَت كَرامات وَآيات

وَكَم تَوالَت كَرامات وَآيات

And how often proofs and a miracle shone forth,

And how many proofs and miracles have been manifest

And how many miraculous graces and signs followed one another,

And how many miracles and signs have followed

بِلَيلة المَولد الغَراء حين دَنا

بِلَيلة المَولد الغَراء حين دَنا

لِوَضع أَحمد خَير الخَلق مِيقات

لِوَضع أَحمد خَير الخَلق مِيقات

On the radiant night of the birth, when there drew near

On the auspicious night of birth when it drew near

The appointed hour for the birth of Ahmad, the best of creation.

For Ahmad, the best of creation, to come into the world

أَعظم بِها لَيلة جَلت بَدائعها

أَعظم بِها لَيلة جَلت بَدائعها

وَأفصحت بِالهَنا فيها الجمادات

وَأفصحت بِالهَنا فيها الجمادات

How magnificent a night! Its wonders were sublime,

The greatest night whose wonders were majestic

And in it inanimate things gave voice to joy.

And inanimate objects were eloquent in it

وَضمخت سائر الأَرجاء وَاِمتَلَأَت

وَضمخت سائر الأَرجاء وَاِمتَلَأَت

عطراً وَفاحَت مِن الأَنحاء نَفحات

عطراً وَفاحَت مِن الأَنحاء نَفحات

And all the regions were perfumed and filled

And all corners were saturated with fragrance

With fragrance, and fragrant breaths wafted from every quarter.

And wafts of scent emanated from regions

وَدَق طَبل الهَنا في كُل ناحِيَة

وَدَق طَبل الهَنا في كُل ناحِيَة

وَقابَلته مِن الآفاق كوسات

وَقابَلته مِن الآفاق كوسات

And the drum of joy was beaten in every quarter,

And the drum of celebration sounded in every vicinity

And kettledrums answered it from the horizons.

And answering it from horizons were kettledrums

وَزَينت حَضرات الغَيب وَاِنتَصَب

وَزَينت حَضرات الغَيب وَاِنتَصَب

مِن أَجل ياسين أَعلام وَرايات

مِن أَجل ياسين أَعلام وَرايات

And the realms of the unseen were adorned, and there rose

And the presences of the unseen adorned themselves

For Yasin's sake, banners and standards.

With, for his sake, standards and banners set up

وَجَلل العَرش بِالأَنوار وَاِتشَح ال

وَجَلل العَرش بِالأَنوار وَاِتشَح ال

كُرسي وَزخرف فردوسٌ وَجنات

كُرسي وَزخرف فردوسٌ وَجنات

And the Throne was draped in lights, and mantled was the

And the Throne was majestic with lights and the

Footstool; and Paradise and gardens were adorned.

Chair was clothed and Paradise adorned and gardens

وَفَرقت خلع التَّكريم في المَلأ ال

وَفَرقت خلع التَّكريم في المَلأ ال

أَعلى وَضجت بِحَمد اللَّهِ أصوات

أَعلى وَضجت بِحَمد اللَّهِ أصوات

And robes of honor were distributed in the assembly on

And gifts of honor were distributed in the Most High assembly

High, and voices rang out in praise of God.

And voices extolled God in praise

وأشرق الكون بالأنوار واتصلت

وأشرق الكون بالأنوار واتصلت

من الهواتف بالهادي بشارات

من الهواتف بالهادي بشارات

And creation shone with lights, and came in succession

And the universe shone with lights and were linked

Glad tidings of the Guide from unseen voices.

From spheres to the Guide tidings

وَنكست سائر الأَصنام وَاِنقَلَبَت

وَنكست سائر الأَصنام وَاِنقَلَبَت

كَأَنَّها لَم تَكُن إِلّا هباآت

كَأَنَّها لَم تَكُن إِلّا هباآت

And all the idols were toppled and overturned,

And all idols were inverted as if they were

As though they had been nothing but motes of dust.

Only false imaginations that were no more

وَرجّ إِيوان كِسرى رَجة سَقَطَت

وَرجّ إِيوان كِسرى رَجة سَقَطَت

لِبأسِها شُرف مِنهُ عَديدات

لِبأسِها شُرف مِنهُ عَديدات

And Kisra's vaulted hall shook with a tremor, bringing down

And Kisra's palace quaked a quaking by which

Through its force, many of its battlements.

Many glories fell from it

وَساءَ ساوة غَيض الما وَفارس مِن

وَساءَ ساوة غَيض الما وَفارس مِن

خُمود نِيرانهم بِالغَيظ قَد ماتوا

خُمود نِيرانهم بِالغَيظ قَد ماتوا

And the water's subsiding grieved Sawa, and the Persians, from

And Sawa was miserable like turbid water and Persia

The extinguishing of their fires, died of rage.

In the stillness of their fires died of rage

وَالجن صدت وَآفاق السَّما مُلِئَت

وَالجن صدت وَآفاق السَّما مُلِئَت

شُهباً أديمت بِها مِنهم حِراسات

شُهباً أديمت بِها مِنهم حِراسات

And the jinn were barred, and the reaches of the sky were filled

And the jinn were repelled and the horizons of the sky filled

With shooting stars, with which a constant watch against them was kept.

With meteors by which their guards were destroyed

وَانشد الحال وَالآيات ظاهِرة

وَانشد الحال وَالآيات ظاهِرة

وَلِلعَوالم أَخبات وَأنصات

وَلِلعَوالم أَخبات وَأنصات

And the state of things sang out, with the signs manifest,

And the present and signs proclaimed

And the worlds were in humble submission and listening silence:

And for worlds were warnings and prickings of ears

قَد آن أَن يُطلع المَولى بِرَحمَتِهِ

قَد آن أَن يُطلع المَولى بِرَحمَتِهِ

شَمساً يُدربها في الكَون خيرات

شَمساً يُدربها في الكَون خيرات

The time has come for the Lord, in His mercy, to bring forth

The time has come for the Master to manifest through His mercy

A sun through which He pours blessings into creation.

A sun by which good is brought forth in the universe

ذات زكت فهي مَحو في مهيمنها

ذات زكت فهي مَحو في مهيمنها

تَحققاً وَلَها بِالحَقِّ إِثبات

تَحققاً وَلَها بِالحَقِّ إِثبات

An essence grown pure, effaced in its Guardian,

Of assured truth in its collectorship

In realization, while through the Real it is affirmed.

And by truth it has proofs

لِلمُصطَفى المُجتبى ياسين من نزلت

لِلمُصطَفى المُجتبى ياسين من نزلت

في مَجدِهِ الفَرد إِنجيل وَتَوراة

في مَجدِهِ الفَرد إِنجيل وَتَوراة

Of al-Mustafa, the Elect, Yasin, for whom were revealed

For the Chosen One, the epitome upon whom descended

Concerning his peerless glory, the Gospel and the Torah.

In his glory the Gospel and Torah

وَنالَ في لَيلة الإِسراء ما عَجزت

وَنالَ في لَيلة الإِسراء ما عَجزت

عَن شَرح أَيسر مَعناه العِبارات

عَن شَرح أَيسر مَعناه العِبارات

And on the night of the Night Journey he attained what exceeded

And who attained in the Night Journey that which expressions

Words' power to explain even its simplest meaning.

Are too limited to explain the easiest of its meanings

وَخصَّ فيها بِما لَم يدره أَحَد

وَخصَّ فيها بِما لَم يدره أَحَد

وَأَمّ جَمعاً بِهم يَسمو السَّموات

وَأَمّ جَمعاً بِهم يَسمو السَّموات

And there he was singled out for what no one knew,

And was particularized with what no one else realized

And he led a gathering in prayer, through whom he rises above the heavens.

And He assembled them while they were particles

وَهوَ المُخَصص في التَّقديم مِن قدم

وَهوَ المُخَصص في التَّقديم مِن قدم

وَحين أَشهدهم وَالقَوم ذرات

وَحين أَشهدهم وَالقَوم ذرات

And he is singled out for precedence from eternity,

And He was distinguished in priority from aforetime

And when He made them bear witness, while the people were mere particles.

When He witnessed them while they were motes

وَهوَ الَّذي جاهَه الأَعلى تَلوذ بِهِ

وَهوَ الَّذي جاهَه الأَعلى تَلوذ بِهِ

في سائر الأَمر أَعيان وَسادات

في سائر الأَمر أَعيان وَسادات

And he is the one whose supreme standing is sought as refuge

And He is the one whose court the Most High sought refuge in

In every matter by notables and lords.

For all affairs, elites and dignitaries

وَهوَ الَّذي لَم أَزَل أَجلوه في خلدي

وَهوَ الَّذي لَم أَزَل أَجلوه في خلدي

تَحققا فَكَأن القَلب مرآت

تَحققا فَكَأن القَلب مرآت

And he is the one whose image I have ever polished in my mind,

And He is the one whom I always revered in my eternity

In realization, as though the heart were a mirror.

As if my heart were a mirror

وَحُبهُ في صَميمي ساكن وَبِهِ

وَحُبهُ في صَميمي ساكن وَبِهِ

أَرى نَعيمي وَلي مِنهُ عِنايات

أَرى نَعيمي وَلي مِنهُ عِنايات

And love for him dwells in my inmost being, and through him

And love of him dwells in my core and through him

I behold my bliss, and from him I receive gracious care.

I see my bliss and I have his care

ما رُمت شَيئاً وَنادى السرّ يا سندي

ما رُمت شَيئاً وَنادى السرّ يا سندي

إِلّا وَجاءَت بِمَأمولي العِنايات

إِلّا وَجاءَت بِمَأمولي العِنايات

Never did I desire anything, my innermost self calling, 'O my support,'

I have never desired anything and my inner secret called

But gracious care came bearing what I hoped for.

Except that the desired object of my care came

وَلا عراني ضِيق وَاِستغثت بِه

وَلا عراني ضِيق وَاِستغثت بِه

إِلا وَأَوسَع لي مِنهُ العطيات

إِلا وَأَوسَع لي مِنهُ العطيات

Nor did distress ever befall me and I call on him for help,

No narrowness constricted me and I sought refuge through him

But he lavished his gifts upon me.

Except that he expanded generosities for me

وَلا اِستجرت بِهِ مِما يروّعني

وَلا اِستجرت بِهِ مِما يروّعني

إِلا أمنت وَوافتني الحِمايات

إِلا أمنت وَوافتني الحِمايات

Nor did I seek his shelter from what frightened me,

I have never sought protection from what frightens me

But I found safety, and safeguards came to me.

Except I became secure and protections came to me

يا أَكرَم الرسل آمالي لَدَيك وَلا

يا أَكرَم الرسل آمالي لَدَيك وَلا

يَخفى مُرادي وَلي بِالجَبر عادات

يَخفى مُرادي وَلي بِالجَبر عادات

O most generous of messengers, my hopes are with you, nor

O noblest Messenger my hopes are in you and

Is my desire hidden; I am accustomed to restoration.

My desires are not hidden from you and you have power over fate

وَأَنتَ أَكرَم مَخلوق تَمدّ لَهُ

وَأَنتَ أَكرَم مَخلوق تَمدّ لَهُ

يَد فَتَملأها مِنهُ المبرات

يَد فَتَملأها مِنهُ المبرات

And you are the most generous created being to whom is extended

You are the most generous creature whose hand extends

A hand, which his acts of kindness then fill.

And it fills from Him with good things

عَلَيك مِن صَلَوات اللَّه أَفضلها

عَلَيك مِن صَلَوات اللَّه أَفضلها

أَزكى صَلاة بِها لِلقَلب وَصلات

أَزكى صَلاة بِها لِلقَلب وَصلات

Upon you be the best of God's blessings,

Upon you from God are the best prayers

The purest blessing, through which the heart gains bonds of union,

The purest prayer by which the heart is purified

وَالرُّسل وَالآل وَالأَصحاب قاطِبَة

وَالرُّسل وَالآل وَالأَصحاب قاطِبَة

وَمَن لَهُم مِن قَبيل الحَق جَذبات

وَمَن لَهُم مِن قَبيل الحَق جَذبات

And upon the messengers, the family, and all the companions,

And upon the messengers, family, and companions altogether

And those who experience the drawing impulses of the Real,

And those attracted through truth to their tribe

ما زَمجَر الرَّعد بِالتَّسبيح وَاِتَصَلَت

ما زَمجَر الرَّعد بِالتَّسبيح وَاِتَصَلَت

لِلّهِ مِن قَطرات الوَدق سَجدات

لِلّهِ مِن قَطرات الوَدق سَجدات

So long as thunder roars in glorification, and there continue

As long as thunder glorifies with tesbih

Prostrations to God from the drops of rain,

And prostrations connect to God from drops of rain

وَما تقشّع غَيم الحجب عَن بَصَر

وَما تقشّع غَيم الحجب عَن بَصَر

وَأَوضَح الجَمع في المَعنى بَيانات

وَأَوضَح الجَمع في المَعنى بَيانات

And as long as the cloud of veils clears from sight,

And the cloud cover lifts from sights

And disclosures make the meaning of union clear.
