نَبيّ لَهُ في كُل فَضل تَقَدم

نَبيّ لَهُ في كُل فَضل تَقَدم

يُريك عُلاهُ فَوقَ كُل مكملِ

يُريك عُلاهُ فَوقَ كُل مكملِ

A prophet who holds precedence in every excellence,

A prophet with precedence in every virtue

He shows you his exalted rank above every perfected one.

His loftiness shows above all the perfected ones

وَجيه بِهِ يَستَمطرُ الفَضلُ وَالعَطا

وَجيه بِهِ يَستَمطرُ الفَضلُ وَالعَطا

وَيَفجأ بِالمَأمولِ كُل مُؤملِ

وَيَفجأ بِالمَأمولِ كُل مُؤملِ

An honored one through whom grace and bounty are sought as rain,

His face, with it grace rains down and gifts gush forth

And he surprises every hopeful soul with what it hopes for.

And surprises every hopeful with what is wished for

فَمَن مِثلهُ وَالحَق جَل جَلاله

فَمَن مِثلهُ وَالحَق جَل جَلاله

يُفاتحه بِالمَدح في كُل مَنزلِ

يُفاتحه بِالمَدح في كُل مَنزلِ

Who, then, is like him, when the Truth—exalted be His majesty—

So who is like him? And God, Glorified is He

Addresses him with praise at every station,

Addresses him with praise at every halt

وَيتحفه مِنهُ بِكُل خصيصةٍ

وَيتحفه مِنهُ بِكُل خصيصةٍ

أَبانَت لَهُ العليا عَلى كُل مُرسلِ

أَبانَت لَهُ العليا عَلى كُل مُرسلِ

And bestows on him, from Himself, every special distinction

And grants him of Himself every special quality

That has revealed his supremacy over every messenger?

Made clear to him, the Sublime, over every messenger

وَفي حَضرة التَّقريب أَعطاهُ رُتبَةً

وَفي حَضرة التَّقريب أَعطاهُ رُتبَةً

تَأَخَر عَنها كُلّ صاحب منزلِ

تَأَخَر عَنها كُلّ صاحب منزلِ

And in the court of nearness, He granted him a rank

And in the presence of proximity, He gave him a rank

Behind which every holder of a station lagged.

Beyond which every companion at a spiritual station fell short

فَلا غايَة إِلّا وَمرماه فَوقَها

فَلا غايَة إِلّا وَمرماه فَوقَها

وَلا سَيد إِلّا وَعَن فَيضِهِ وَلي

وَلا سَيد إِلّا وَعَن فَيضِهِ وَلي

There is no goal but his aim lies above it,

So there is no ultimate goal but that his goal is beyond it

And no master but owes his authority to his overflowing grace.

No master but by his overflowing grace is a loyal subject

وَيَكفيك بِالإِسراءِ عِلماً بِقدره

وَيَكفيك بِالإِسراءِ عِلماً بِقدره

وَبِالمَجد ما في الذكر مِن ذِكرِهِ العَلي

وَبِالمَجد ما في الذكر مِن ذِكرِهِ العَلي

And the Night Journey suffices to make his worth known to you,

And suffice you the Ascension as a knowledge of his value

And, of his glory, his exalted mention in the Revelation.

And the glory contained in the remembrance of his Exalted Name

وَحَسبكَ بُرهاناً شَفاعَتهُ الَّتي

وَحَسبكَ بُرهاناً شَفاعَتهُ الَّتي

يَلوذ بِها في الحَشر كُل مُبَجّلِ

يَلوذ بِها في الحَشر كُل مُبَجّلِ

And sufficient proof for you is his intercession, in which

And enough proof is his intercession on the Day of Assembly

Every honored one seeks refuge at the Gathering.

Which every honored soul seeks as protection

وَيَستَنقذ الخاطين مِن بَأس نقمة

وَيَستَنقذ الخاطين مِن بَأس نقمة

وَيَفتح للأدنين باب التَّفَضُّلِ

وَيَفتح للأدنين باب التَّفَضُّلِ

And he rescues sinners from the severity of retribution,

To save the sinners from the torment of wrath

And opens the door of gracious favor to the lowliest.

And to open for the lowly the door of kindness

فَأَعظم بِهِ جاهاً يدرّ بِمَجدِهِ

فَأَعظم بِهِ جاهاً يدرّ بِمَجدِهِ

سَحاب العَطا في كُل بدئ وَمُوئلِ

سَحاب العَطا في كُل بدئ وَمُوئلِ

How great his standing! Through his glory the rain pours

So glorify him with the greatest glory which pours down

From clouds of bounty at every beginning and place of refuge.

The rain of gifts at every beginning and return

بَراهينه الأَكوان طافِحَة بِها

بَراهينه الأَكوان طافِحَة بِها

كَما طَفَحت بِالمَدح في فَضلِهِ الجلي

كَما طَفَحت بِالمَدح في فَضلِهِ الجلي

His proofs—the worlds are brimming with them,

The evidences for him overflowing in the cosmos

Just as they brim with praise of his manifest excellence.

As praise overflowed for his manifest virtue

إِذا قلت يا طَه أَغثني يَقول لي

إِذا قلت يا طَه أَغثني يَقول لي

وَفاء الوَفا ها هُوَ أَمامك فَاِجتَلي

وَفاء الوَفا ها هُوَ أَمامك فَاِجتَلي

When I say, “O Taha, come to my aid,” he says to me:

If I say, “O Taha help me,” he says to me

“The fulfillment of faithfulness is here before you—behold!”

“Loyal loyalty, here it is before you so take it”

وَإِن ظَمئت روحي إِلى أَكؤس الوَفا

وَإِن ظَمئت روحي إِلى أَكؤس الوَفا

أَراه يحيني اِمتِناناً فَامتلي

أَراه يحيني اِمتِناناً فَامتلي

And if my soul thirsts for the cups of faithfulness,

And if my soul thirsts for cups of loyalty

I see him revive me graciously, and so I am filled.

I see him refreshing me graciously so fill up

وَإِن أم قَلبي آمِلا فَيض جُوده

وَإِن أم قَلبي آمِلا فَيض جُوده

وَفاه بِأَقصى القَصد مِن قادر ملي

وَفاه بِأَقصى القَصد مِن قادر ملي

And if my heart sets forth, hoping for his bounty’s overflow,

And if the heart of a hopeful desires his bursting generosity

He grants it its utmost wish, from one powerful and rich.

His fulfillment meets the utmost goal of the Powerful Author

وَما ظَفرت وَاللَّه كَفيّ بِبغية

وَما ظَفرت وَاللَّه كَفيّ بِبغية

سِوى أَن يَكُن فيها بطه توسّلي

سِوى أَن يَكُن فيها بطه توسّلي

And, by God, my hand has attained no wish

And I have never attained, by God the All-Sufficient, any desire

Except when I made my appeal for it through Taha.

Other than to have Taha as my intercessor

أَلا يا رَسول اللَه يا أَشرَف الوَرى

أَلا يا رَسول اللَه يا أَشرَف الوَرى

وَيا مَن عَلَيهِ لا يَزال تَطفلي

وَيا مَن عَلَيهِ لا يَزال تَطفلي

O Messenger of God, O noblest of creation,

Oh Messenger of God, Oh Noblest of Creation

And O you upon whom I never cease to presume,

To whom my persistent turning never ceases

تملكني صدق الوداد وَلَم يَزَل

تملكني صدق الوداد وَلَم يَزَل

يُداخلني التَّبريح في كُل مفصلِ

يُداخلني التَّبريح في كُل مفصلِ

Sincere love has possessed me, and still

Sincerity of affection took hold of me and did not cease

Torment pervades me in every joint.

To permeate me with joyfulness in every joint

إِلى أَن تَفانَت جلق بِصَبابَتي

إِلى أَن تَفانَت جلق بِصَبابَتي

وَلَم أَرَ لي وَجهاً إِلى وَرد منهلِ

وَلَم أَرَ لي وَجهاً إِلى وَرد منهلِ

Until Jilliq was consumed by my ardent longing,

Until my determination melted with my youth

And I saw no way for myself to drink at a watering place.

And I saw no way to obtain the wished-for drink

ألا يا رَسول اللَّه مَن كُنت غوثه

ألا يا رَسول اللَّه مَن كُنت غوثه

حَظي بِبُلوغ القَصد في كُلِّ مدخلِ

حَظي بِبُلوغ القَصد في كُلِّ مدخلِ

O Messenger of God, whoever has you as his aid

Oh Messenger of God, whoever you are his succor

Is favored with reaching his goal through every approach.

Attains the goal sought in every approach

وَهَذي يَدي بِالفَقر صدقاً بَسَطتها

وَهَذي يَدي بِالفَقر صدقاً بَسَطتها

وَما لي شِعار غَير فرط تَذَلُلي

وَما لي شِعار غَير فرط تَذَلُلي

And here is my hand: in true poverty I have stretched it out,

And here I extend my hand in poverty sincerely

And I have no garb but my utter self-abasement.

And I have no banner but excessive humility

أعاجلك الوهب الَّذي أَنتَ أَهله

أعاجلك الوهب الَّذي أَنتَ أَهله

وَأَسألُكَ العَيشَ الَّذي بِكَ يَصفو لي

وَأَسألُكَ العَيشَ الَّذي بِكَ يَصفو لي

I press you for the gift you are worthy to bestow,

I ask You for the gift for which You are worthy

And I ask you for the life that, through you, becomes serene for me.

And I ask You for the life by which mine is set aright

وَأَنتَ رَؤوف وَالمَراحم تَقتَضي

وَأَنتَ رَؤوف وَالمَراحم تَقتَضي

إِغاثة مَن يَرجوك يا خَير مُرسلِ

إِغاثة مَن يَرجوك يا خَير مُرسلِ

And you are compassionate, and mercy requires

You are Kind and mercies require

Relief for whoever hopes in you, O best of messengers.

Helping those who hope in You, Oh Best of Messengers

وَأَنتَ عَريض الجاه وَالفَضل واسع

وَأَنتَ عَريض الجاه وَالفَضل واسع

وَمَهما تَقل يسمع فَجد بِالتطولِ

وَمَهما تَقل يسمع فَجد بِالتطولِ

And your standing is vast, and your bounty wide,

You are abundant in glory, grace and generosity

And whatever you say is heard; so be generous with your favors.

However little I ask, You hear, so increase my request

عَلَيك صَلاة اللَّهِ ثُم سَلامه

عَلَيك صَلاة اللَّهِ ثُم سَلامه

وَآل وَأَصحاب كِرام وَمَن يَلي

وَآل وَأَصحاب كِرام وَمَن يَلي

Upon you be God’s blessing, and then His peace,

Upon You, God’s prayers and peace

And upon your family, noble companions, and those who follow.

Then on Your family, noble companions and followers

صَلاة بِغايات الأَماني كَفيلة

صَلاة بِغايات الأَماني كَفيلة

وَفيها لِنَيل السؤل أَيّ توصلِ

وَفيها لِنَيل السؤل أَيّ توصلِ

A blessing that assures the fulfillment of the highest hopes,

Prayers fulfilling hopes are sufficient

And in it—what a means of attaining one’s desire!

Through them to attain what is sought, every means

مدى الدَّهر ما اِفتَرَّ الأَقاح بِرَوضة

مدى الدَّهر ما اِفتَرَّ الأَقاح بِرَوضة

يحي شَذاها مسبلا بَعد مسبلِ

يحي شَذاها مسبلا بَعد مسبلِ

Throughout time, so long as daisies smile in a meadow

As long as the meadows have bloomed in their freshness

Whose fragrance greets rain-shedding cloud after cloud,

Reviving its fragrance after fragrance

وَما أَسعف الجُود الإِلهي بِالوَفا

وَما أَسعف الجُود الإِلهي بِالوَفا

وَقَرت عُيون السَّير بِالمَشهَد العَلي

وَقَرت عُيون السَّير بِالمَشهَد العَلي

And so long as divine bounty grants fulfillment,

And divine generosity has given of loyalty

And wayfarers’ eyes are gladdened by the sublime vision.

And the eyes of my journey are content with the Sublime Witness
