وَنَحنُ المورِدونَ شَبا العَوالي

وَنَحنُ المورِدونَ شَبا العَوالي

حِياضَ المَوتِ بِالعَددِ المُثابِ

حِياضَ المَوتِ بِالعَددِ المُثابِ

And we are those who lead the points of long spears

We are the suppliers of young warriors

to the pools of death, with reinforced ranks.

To the gardens of death in great numbers

تَرَكنا الأَزدَ يَبرُقُ عارِضاها

تَرَكنا الأَزدَ يَبرُقُ عارِضاها

عَلى ثَجرٍ فَداراتِ النِصابِ

عَلى ثَجرٍ فَداراتِ النِصابِ

We left al-Azd with both its flanks gleaming

We left Al-Azd flashing its lightning

at Thajr, then Dārāt al-Niṣāb.

Upon rugged mountains and twisting paths

فَسائِل حاجِزاً عَنّا وَعَنهُم

فَسائِل حاجِزاً عَنّا وَعَنهُم

بِبُرقَةِ ضاحِكٍ يَومَ الجَنابِ

بِبُرقَةِ ضاحِكٍ يَومَ الجَنابِ

So ask Ḥājiz about us and about them

Asking a barrier between us and them

at Burqat Ḍāḥik, on the day of al-Janāb.

With a laughing flash on the day of answering the call

فَأَبلِغ بِالجَنابَةِ جَمعَ قَومي

فَأَبلِغ بِالجَنابَةِ جَمعَ قَومي

وَمَن حَلَّ الهِضابَ عَلى العِتابِ

وَمَن حَلَّ الهِضابَ عَلى العِتابِ

Then inform my people's host at al-Janābah,

So inform the group of my people

and whoever has settled in the uplands at al-ʿItāb:

And whoever pitched tents reproaching

ووَلَّوا هارِبينَ بِكُلِّ فَجٍّ

ووَلَّوا هارِبينَ بِكُلِّ فَجٍّ

كَأَنَّ خُصاهُم قِطَعُ الوِذابِ

كَأَنَّ خُصاهُم قِطَعُ الوِذابِ

And they turned away, fleeing through every mountain pass,

They fled in every pass

as though their testicles were chunks of flesh.

As if their robes were cut to pieces
