بَياتاًby night قَبلَbefore تَصدِيَةِthe crowing of الدُيوكِthe roosters
We raided the sons of Bujayr at al-Thani,
We rode through the valleys of Banu Bujayr
By night, before the roosters crowed.
Before the dawn when cocks crow.
فَلَمso not نَترُكwe leave بِهاthere إِرماًa person وَعُجماًand beasts
مَعَwith النَصرِvictory المُؤَزَّرِstrengthened بِالسُهوكِby the fierce wind (sense uncertain)
So we left neither man nor beast there,
We left no large army or small host there
With victory strengthened by the fierce wind,
With victory wrapped in mail coats.
إِلىtoward مَنthose who بِالزُمَيلِat al-Zumayl وَجانِبَيهِand its two sides
وَطارواand they flew حَيثُwherever طارواthey flew كَالدُموكِlike a swift she-camel
On to those at al-Zumayl and on either side of it;
To those whose flank and sides
And they flew wherever they flew, like a swift she-camel.
Fled as sand grouse take flight.
وَأُجلواand they were driven away عَنfrom نِسائِهِمُtheir women فَكُنّاso we were
بِهاto them أَولىmore entitled مِنَthan الحَيِّthe tribe الرَكوكِfeeble
And they were driven from their women, so we were
And who deserted their women, so we
More entitled to them than the feeble tribe.
Had better right to them than worthy men.
