لاnot يحسُبونَthey reckon لناfor us حساباًan account.. حَقُّهُمtheir right!
لا يحسُبونَ لنا حساباً.. حَقُّهُم!
هلdoes ...? يُفزعُfrightens الراعيthe shepherd.. قطيعُa flock شِيَاهِof sheep؟
هل يُفزعُ الراعي.. قطيعُ شِيَاهِ؟
They take no account of us... and they are right!
They take no account of us... and rightly so!
Would a shepherd be frightened by his flock of sheep?
Does a flock of sheep frighten the shepherd?
ولناand we have رؤوسٌheads كلُّهاall of them مرفوعةٌheld high
ولنا رؤوسٌ كلُّها مرفوعةٌ
لكنّهاbut they رُفعتwere raised بغيرِwithout جِباهِforeheads
لكنّها رُفعت بغيرِ جِباهِ
Our heads are all held high,
And we have heads, all held high,
Yet they were raised without foreheads.
but they were raised without foreheads.
فمتىso when الرجولةُmanhood تستعيدُregains مكانهاits place
فمتى الرجولةُ تستعيدُ مكانها
ياO أُمّةًnation تعبتhas grown weary مِنَof الأشباهِthe look-alikes
يا أُمّةً تعبت مِنَ الأشباهِ
So when will manhood reclaim its place?
So when will manhood regain its place,
O nation, exhausted by counterfeits!
O nation grown weary of look-alikes?
وإلىand until متىwhen بالصمتwith silence هذاthis نكتفيwe are content
وإلى متى بالصمت هذا نكتفي
أوor قولناour saying: عُذراًpardon رسولَMessenger اللهِof God؟
أو قولنا: عُذراً رسولَ اللهِ؟
And how long will we content ourselves with this silence,
And how long will we be content with this silence,
Or with saying, “Forgive us, O Messenger of God”?
or with our saying, 'Forgive us, Messenger of God'?
