لا فزت مع الجمع بوادي جمع

لا فزت مع الجمع بوادي جمع

بالقصد وخانني وفي الدمع

بالقصد وخانني وفي الدمع

May I not succeed with the throng in the valley of Jamʿ

I did not rejoice with the crowd in the valley of gathering

in my quest, and may my faithful tears betray me,

With purpose, yet they betrayed me, and in tears

إن لذ سوى حديثكم في سمعي

إن لذ سوى حديثكم في سمعي

أو راق مال غيركم في بصري

أو راق مال غيركم في بصري

if anything but your words is sweet to my hearing,

Indeed, nothing was sweet except your talk in my hearing

or the wealth of anyone but you delights my eyes.

Or pleasing except your sight in my vision
