I have indeed reached my goal through patience and diligence,

and all I sought—not through paternal uncle, maternal uncle, or grandfather.

I boasted not of kin, cultivated land, or wealth,

but took pride in merit, nobility, and glory.

The heights are my desire; through God I reached their summit.

Through Him I attained the furthest limit of their reach.

Mine are unassailable might, pride, and eminence.

Mine is the throne with its celestial spheres, in honor and good fortune.

My tongue is a keen Yemeni sword in every assembly

and battlefield—unsheathed, it cleft doubt even in its scabbard.

East and West have lent an ear to my words.

At my words, the lion's roar is hushed, and thunder too.

Whenever an eloquent speaker recites a poem by one like me,

all but the Judge grow enamored and strut, proud of their stature.

My words are healing, fragrance, magic, radiance, guidance,

purity, decisiveness, judgment—tender in the rose's luxuriance.

So, without doubt, one like me is master of all perfections.

And, without doubt, one like me has no equal or rival.

When I die, lament me, O world, for as long as you endure.

And if you wish, O world, then die after me.
