إذاwhen نامَتِfall asleep العينانِthe two eyes منof مُتَيَقِّظٍa wakeful person
إذا نامَتِ العينانِ من مُتَيَقِّظٍ
تراخَتslacken بلاwithout شَكٍّdoubt تشاريجُthe folds فَقحَتِهof his anus
تراخَت بلا شَكٍّ تشاريجُ فَقحَتِه
When a wakeful man's two eyes fall asleep,
If the eyes of the vigilant man fall asleep
The folds of his anus slacken, without a doubt.
His mind undoubtedly relaxes its cogitations
فمنso whoever كانَis ذاpossessed of عَقلٍreason فَيَعذِرُthen he excuses نائماًa sleeping person
فمن كانَ ذا عَقلٍ فَيَعذِرُ نائماً
ومنand whoever كانis ذاpossessed of جهلٍignorance ففيthen in جوفِthe hollow of لحيتهhis beard
ومن كان ذا جهلٍ ففي جوفِ لحيته
So whoever has sense excuses a sleeping man,
So let the man of intellect excuse one who sleeps
And whoever is ignorant—let it be in the hollow of his beard!
While one unwise has folly nestled in his beard
