باتتshe spent the night تئِنُّmoaning وماyet not بهاin her وجديmy anguish
باتت تئِنُّ وما بها وجدي
وتَحِنُّand she yearns منfrom وَجدٍlonging الىtoward نَجدِNajd
وتَحِنُّ من وَجدٍ الى نَجدِ
She spent the night moaning, yet my anguish is not hers.
She moans though nothing ails her
And she yearns, out of longing, for Najd.
And yearns though she's never known longing
فدموعُهاfor her tears تحياcome alive الرياضُthe gardens بهاthrough them
فدموعُها تحيا الرياضُ بها
ودموعُand the tears عينيof my eye أقرَحَتhave made sore خَدِّيmy cheek
ودموعُ عيني أقرَحَت خَدِّي
For her tears bring the gardens to life,
Her tears bring life to the meadows
And the tears of my eye have made my cheek raw.
While mine only chafe my cheeks
