فَحمٌ كيومِ الفراقِ تُشعِلُهُ

Charcoal, like the day of parting, is kindled

أسودُblack قدindeed صارَhas become تحتbeneath حمرتهits redness
أسودُ قد صارَ تحت حمرته
مثلَlike العيونِthe eyes اكتحلنَthey applied kohl بالرَمَدِwith eye inflammation
مثلَ العيونِ اكتحلنَ بالرَمَدِ
Black it has become beneath its redness,
