والارض من صبغِ النبات كأنّما

أعلامُها مثلُ القميص المُعلَمِ

And the earth, dyed by vegetation, seems as though

The earth with vegetation's dye as though

Its markings were like a patterned tunic,

Its banners were embroidered garments' flow

أو مثلُ جامٍ من عقيق أو كطا

أو مثلُ جامٍ من عقيق أو كطا

سٍ من زجاجٍ بالمدامة مفعم

سٍ من زجاجٍ بالمدامة مفعم

Or like a cup of agate, or like a bowl

Or ruby goblet filled with wine, and so

Of glass, brimming with wine.

A glass of wine with bubbles all aglow
