وليلةٍAnd a night مثلlike أمرِthe coming of الساعةthe Hour اشتبهتresembled
وليلةٍ مثل أمرِ الساعة اشتبهت
حتىuntil تقضّتit ended ولمand did not نشعرwe become aware بهاof it قِصَراbecause of brevity
حتى تقضّت ولم نشعر بها قِصَرا
And a night resembled the coming of the Hour,
A night like the matter of the hour was confused
until it ended, so brief that we did not perceive it.
Until it passed and we did not feel its brevity
لاnot يستطيعcan بليغٌan eloquent speaker وصفdescribe سُرعَتهاits swiftness
لا يستطيع بليغٌ وصف سُرعَتها
فاتَتit passed ولمand did not تَعتَلِقtake hold of وَهماًimagination ولاnor بَصَراsight
فاتَت ولم تَعتَلِق وَهماً ولا بَصَرا
No eloquent speaker can describe its swiftness:
No eloquent one can describe its speed
it passed, taking hold of neither imagination nor sight.
It went by, neither clinging to delusions nor sights
