I donned the slenderness of a slender branch,
I donned the slenderness of the thin branch,
And melted away, save a last flicker of life in a frail body,
And melted away except for a mere shadow in weakness.

وإنسيِّ المخايل والأليف

He has a mound of sand in every limb:
In each limb he has the frailty of drifting sand,
Heavy of body, yet light of spirit.
Heavy of body, with a light spirit.

Do I love one emaciated without having loved him?
Except that I myself am of graceful build.
Except that I am the brother of delicate creation.

When my palm touched him, it touched
Nothing but skin upon a slender bone.
Nothing but skin on thin bone.
