فَقُلتُso I said لَهاto her عِيثيravage جَعارِJaʿār (a name for the hyena) وَجَرّريand tug
فَقُلتُ لَها عِيثي جَعارِ وَجَرّري
بِلَحمِat the flesh of اِمرىءٍa man لَمdid not يَشهَدِbe present اليَومَtoday ناصِرُهُhis defender
بِلَحمِ اِمرىءٍ لَم يَشهَدِ اليَومَ ناصِرُهُ
So I said to her: Ravage, O Jaʿār, and tug
So I said to her, "My invalidity, my dragging myself about,
at the flesh of a man whose defender was not present today.
Is due to the flesh of a man who today finds none to aid him."
