رَأَيتَ البَكرَ بَكرَ بني ثَمُودٍ

وَأَنتَ أَراكَ بَكرَ الأَشعَرِينا

I saw the youth of the tribe of Thamud

And I see you as the youth of the Ash'aris

فَإِن يَكُنِ اِبنُ عَفّانٍ أَميناً

فَلَم يَبعَث بِكَ البَرَّ الأَمِينا

If the son of 'Affan is trustworthy

Why did the Trustworthy send you to us

فَيا قَبرَ النَبِيِّ وَصاحِبَيهِ

أَلاَ يا غَوثَنا لَو تَسمَعُونا

O grave of the Prophet and his two companions

Would that you could hear our call

أَلاَ صَلَّى إِلهُكُمُ عَلَيكُم

وَلاَ صَلَّى عَلى الأُمَراءِ فِينا

Indeed your God prays upon you

But He prays not for the rulers among us

لَها فَرَطٌ يَكُونُ وَلا تَراهُ

أَماناً مِن مَعرّسِنا وَدُونا

For it a loss that will come to pass though unseen

Safety from our saddlebags and sheaths
