كَأَنas though لَمdid not تَرَبَّعshe spent the spring فيamong الخَلِيطِthe company مُقِيمةًsettled
كَأَن لَم تَرَبَّع في الخَلِيطِ مُقِيمةً
بِتَنهِيَةٍat a valley-end water basin بَينَbetween الشَقائقِal-Shaqa'iq فَالعَزلِand al-'Azl
بِتَنهِيَةٍ بَينَ الشَقائقِ فَالعَزلِ
As though she had never spent the spring settled among the company,
As though you never settled in the mix
at a water basin between al-Shaqa'iq and al-'Azl;
With a home between the anemones and isolation
وَلَمand did not تَعدُgallop أَفراسٌhorses يُبَوِّئنَthey provide lodging for أَهلَهاtheir people
وَلَم تَعدُ أَفراسٌ يُبَوِّئنَ أَهلَها
عَلىin وَجَلٍfear جَنبَيboth sides of سَرارٍSarar إِلىas far as الدَحلِal-Dahl
عَلى وَجَلٍ جَنبَي سَرارٍ إِلى الدَحلِ
nor had horses galloped, bringing their people to camp,
And no more horses housing their people
in fear, on both sides of Sarar, as far as al-Dahl.
On alarmed sides of a mount to the ruins
وَلَستُand I am not وَإِنand even though عَزُّواthey were dear عَليَّto me بِهالِكٍone to perish
وَلَستُ وَإِن عَزُّوا عَليَّ بِهالِكٍ
خُفاتاًsuddenly ولَاnor مُستَهزِمٍrouted ذاهِبِbereft of العَقلِreason
خُفاتاً ولَا مُستَهزِمٍ ذاهِبِ العَقلِ
And though they were dear to me, I am not one to perish
And I am not, though they tease me with a perished one,
suddenly, nor one routed and bereft of reason.
Lightweights, nor a defeated one losing his mind
