تُوافيshe comes to الدِيارَthe dwellings بِوجهٍwith a face غَبِرdusty
And she is not misshapen and ugly,
She is not ugly or repulsive,
coming to the dwellings with a dusty face.
Approaching homes with a dusty face.
فَذَرso leave ذاthis وَعدِّand move on إِلىto غَيرِهِsomething other than it
فَشَرُّfor the worst المَقالَةِspeech ماwhat يُعتَسرَis forced
So leave this, and move on to something else;
So leave this one and make a promise to another,
for the worst speech is that which is forced.
For the worst speech is that which is excused.
وَماand ... is not البَغيُwrongdoing إِلاَّexcept عَلىupon أَهلِهِits perpetrators
وَماand ... are not الناسُpeople إِلاَّexcept كهذيlike these الشَجَرtrees
And wrongdoing rebounds only upon its perpetrators;
Oppression is only against its people,
and people are only like these trees:
And people are just like these trees.

you see the branch in the prime of youth,
You see the branch in the prime of youth
swaying amid green splendors,
Swaying in green delights.

فَعادَso it turned إِلىto صُفرَةٍyellowness فاِنكَسَرand then it broke
for a span of time; then it bent,
After a time, it withers,
turned yellow, and broke.
Returning to yellowness and breaks.
وَكَمand many مِنof أَخِيa man of عَليَةٍpoverty (apparently intended) مُقتِرٍimpoverished
تَأَتَّىcame لَهُto him المالُwealth حَتّىuntil اِنجَبَرhe recovered his fortunes
And many a man in need, impoverished,
How many impoverished brothers
wealth came to him until his fortunes were restored.
Came to wealth until mended.
وَآخرَand another قَدonce كانَhad been جَمَّabundant in الغِناءِwealth

And another had once possessed abundant wealth;
And another who had abundant riches,
misfortunes struck him until he became poor.
Events made him destitute.
وَكَمand many غائبٍan absent man كانَwas يَخشَىfearing الرَدىdeath

And many a man away from home who feared death
And how many absent ones feared demise
returned, while the one at home perished.
But returned and ruined those at home.
