يا كَعبُ هَل لَكَ في كِلا

يا كَعبُ هَل لَكَ في كِلا

بٍ إِنَّ أَصلَ العِزِّ ذاهِب

بٍ إِنَّ أَصلَ العِزِّ ذاهِب

O Kaʿb, have you any interest in Kilā—

O Ka'b, have you any advice

—b? Indeed, the root of glory is vanishing.

For the noble stock is dying out?

هَل تَعلَمونَ وَأَنتُم

هَل تَعلَمونَ وَأَنتُم

قَومٌ تُقَصُّ لَكُم شَوارِب

قَومٌ تُقَصُّ لَكُم شَوارِب

Do you know, while you are

Do you not know, you a learned race,

a people whose mustaches are clipped for you?

With beards precise and elegant?

وَبَنو فَزارَةَ إنَّها

وَبَنو فَزارَةَ إنَّها

لا تُلبِثُ الحَلبَ الحَلائِب

لا تُلبِثُ الحَلبَ الحَلائِب

And the sons of Fazārah—indeed,

The Bani Fazara, beyond doubt,

the milch beasts do not delay the milking.

Will leave no milk for babes to tout.
