ابنُson of الجغانيّal-Jaghani غداhas become عِندناamong us
ابنُ الجغانيّ غدا عِندنا
بضِدّas the opposite of ماwhat كانhe was بِقُطرَبُّلِin Qutrabbul
بضِدّ ما كان بِقُطرَبُّلِ
Ibn al-Jaghani has become, here among us,
The son of al-Jughani has become among us
the opposite of what he was in Qutrabbul:
The opposite of what he was in al-Qutrabbul
صاعقةًa thunderbolt أرسلهاsent it ربُّهاits Lord
صاعقةً أرسلها ربُّها
بِأرضin the land of سنجارSinjar علىupon مَنwhoever بُلىwas afflicted
بِأرض سنجار على مَن بُلى
a thunderbolt sent by its Lord
A lightning bolt sent by his Lord
upon those afflicted in the land of Sinjar.
Upon the land of Sinjar against the worn down one
دلّىlet hang down ذُؤاباتٍforelocks وقالand he said انظرواlook, all of you
دلّى ذُؤاباتٍ وقال انظروا
سِبطَthe grandson of النَبيِّthe Prophet المُصطَفىthe Chosen One المُرسَلsent as a messenger
سِبطَ النَبيِّ المُصطَفى المُرسَل
He let his forelocks hang down and said, "Behold
He showed his forearms and said look
the grandson of the Prophet, the Chosen Messenger!"
At the grandson of the Chosen Prophet
حاشىfar be it from السَراةthe nobles الغُرَّthe illustrious منof هاشمHashim
حاشى السَراة الغُرَّ من هاشم
أنthat يَقرُبواthey be related منto مُدَّحunclear as written; possibly 'claimant' مُمحِلa schemer
أن يَقرُبوا من مُدَّح مُمحِل
Far be it for the illustrious nobles of Hashim
It is sacrilege for the honorable Hashemites
to be kin to a claimant [reading uncertain], a schemer.
That they go near the exaggerated one
يَأنفdisdains منfrom نسبتهkinship with him كلُّeveryone مَنwho
يَأنف من نسبته كلُّ مَن
يَرجعtraces his descent فيamong الناسِpeople إلىto أَوَّلa forebear
يَرجع في الناسِ إلى أَوَّل
Kinship with him is scorned by everyone who
Everyone who traces back to the first
among people traces his descent to a forebear.
Disdains relating him to lineage
إنif كانis حقّاًtrue ماwhat ادَّعىhe claimed قُلsay لهto him
إن كان حقّاً ما ادَّعى قُل له
يُظهِرlet him proclaim ذاكَthat الأمرَclaim فيin المَوصلMosul
يُظهِر ذاكَ الأمرَ في المَوصل
If what he claims is true, tell him
If it is true what he claims, tell him
to proclaim that claim in Mosul.
To show that matter in Mosul
السَوطُthe whip والتجريسُand public shaming قدّامهahead of him
السَوطُ والتجريسُ قدّامه
وإنand if تمادىpersists أمرُهhis affair يُقتَلhe will be killed
وإن تمادى أمرُه يُقتَل
The whip and public shaming lie ahead of him,
The whip and shackles are before him
and if his claim persists, he will be killed.
And if he persists in his affair, he will be killed
أراحَناmay He relieve us منهof him الذيthe One who صاغَهfashioned him
أراحَنا منه الذي صاغَه
منfrom جَبَلMount الجوديّal-Judi كالجَندلlike a boulder
من جَبَل الجوديّ كالجَندل
May we be rid of him by the One who fashioned him
He who created him relieved us from him
from Mount al-Judi, like a boulder.
From the mountain of generosity like an acacia tree
