أقول له وقد أبصرت مَرأى

أقول له وقد أبصرت مَرأى

يُحاكى غُرَّةَ القَمر المُنيرِ

يُحاكى غُرَّةَ القَمر المُنيرِ

I say to him, having beheld a countenance

I say to him as I have seen a sight

that resembles the bright face of the shining moon,

That emulates the radiance of the shining moon

وَأخلاقاً كما مُزِجت شَمولٌ

وَأخلاقاً كما مُزِجت شَمولٌ

تُدارُ عليك بالعَذب النَمير

تُدارُ عليك بالعَذب النَمير

and a character like wine that has been blended,

And morals blended wholesomely

passed round to you with sweet, limpid water;

Revolved around you with the sweetest pure water

ولي حالٌ يُنافرها التَصابي

ولي حالٌ يُنافرها التَصابي

وقد حالت بإلمام النَذير

وقد حالت بإلمام النَذير

while my condition is at odds with youthful dalliance,

And I have a state that contends with it

and has changed with the warner's arrival:

And has turned with knowing the Warner

لقد أبديتَ لي حُسناً وَحُسنى

لقد أبديتَ لي حُسناً وَحُسنى

ولكن جِئتَ في الزَمن الأخير

ولكن جِئتَ في الزَمن الأخير

You have indeed shown me beauty and kindness,

You have certainly shown me beauty and favor

but you have come at this late stage.

But you have come in the latter time
