لاmay not يَقطَعُsever اللَّهُGod اليَمينَthe right hand الَّتيthat رَمَتshot
لا يَقطَعُ اللَّهُ اليَمينَ الَّتي رَمَت
عَلىat قَضْبَةٍa slender shoot قَدalready لانَgrew supple وَاِشتَدَّand grew strong عودُهاits wood
عَلى قَضْبَةٍ قَد لانَ وَاِشتَدَّ عودُها
May God not sever the right hand that shot
God will not break the oath she swore
at a slender shoot whose wood had grown supple and strong.
On a bow that was bent and its cord pulled taut.
رَماهاhe shot her بِمَطرورِwith a sharp-pointed shaft أَمازِقَAmāziq بَينهاamid them
رَماها بِمَطرورِ أَمازِقَ بَينها
عَلىon عَدواءَuneven ground وَالعُتَيْرُand al-ʿUtayr يَقودُهاleads her
عَلى عَدواءَ وَالعُتَيْرُ يَقودُها
He shot her with a sharp-pointed shaft of Amāziq, amid them,
She shot it with a thick-feathered arrow
on uneven ground, while al-ʿUtayr led her.
At enemies led on by mounts in their prime.
رَمىhe shot رَميَةًa shot لَوif قسّمَتْit were divided بَينَamong عامِرٍʿĀmir
رَمى رَميَةً لَو قسّمَتْ بَينَ عامِرٍ
وَذُبيانِهاand its Dhubyān لَمnot يَبقَremain إِلَّاexcept شَريدُهاits fugitive
وَذُبيانِها لَم يَبقَ إِلَّا شَريدُها
He fired a shot that, had it been divided among ʿĀmir
It was a shot that if dealt out to 'Amir
and its Dhubyān, none but its fugitives would have remained.
And his clans, none would remain but their remnants.
