لَقَد عَلِمَتْ أولى المُغيرَةِ أَنَّني

لَقَد عَلِمَتْ أولى المُغيرَةِ أَنَّني

كَررتُ فَلَم أَنكُل عَنِ الضَّربِ مَسمَعا

كَررتُ فَلَم أَنكُل عَنِ الضَّربِ مَسمَعا

The vanguard of the raiding force surely knows that I

The first war has taught me that I

Charged again and did not flinch from striking Masmaʿ.

Kept striking though would not refrain

وَما كُنتُ إِلَّا السَّيفَ لاقى ضَريبَةً

وَما كُنتُ إِلَّا السَّيفَ لاقى ضَريبَةً

فَقَطَّعَها ثُمَّ اِنثَنى فَتَقَطَّعا

فَقَطَّعَها ثُمَّ اِنثَنى فَتَقَطَّعا

And I was nothing but a sword that met a target,

I was but a sword that met its due

So it cut it to pieces, then bent back and broke apart.

Cut it then recoiled restraining its temper

وَإِنّي لأعدي الخَيلَ تَعثُر بِالقَنا

وَإِنّي لأعدي الخَيلَ تَعثُر بِالقَنا

حِفاظاً عَلى المَولى الحَريدِ لِيُمْنَعا

حِفاظاً عَلى المَولى الحَريدِ لِيُمْنَعا

And indeed I drive the horses on as they stumble over spear-shafts,

I do lead the steeds to stumble at the paths

Out of loyalty to the isolated ally, so that he may be protected.

To protect the impecunious friend from harm

وَنَحنُ جَلَبنا الخَيلَ مِن سوقِ حميرٍ

وَنَحنُ جَلَبنا الخَيلَ مِن سوقِ حميرٍ

إِلى أَن وَطئنا أَرضَ حمير نزَّعا

إِلى أَن وَطئنا أَرضَ حمير نزَّعا

And we drove the horses from Himyar's market,

We brought the steeds from Hamir's market

Until we trod Himyar's land, far from home.

Until we trod Hamir's land unfurled
