وَقَولُand the cry الغُرابِof the crow لَهاfor her شاهِدُa witness
وَقَولُ الغُرابِ لَها شاهِدُ
The sandgrouse tells me of deliverance,
The wild cat tells me of salvation
and the crow’s cry bears witness for her.
And the raven's word bears witness

تَقولُ أَلا قَد دَنا نازِحٌ
فِداءٌa ransom لَهُfor him الطارِفُnewly acquired wealth التالِدُinherited wealth
فِداءٌ لَهُ الطارِفُ التالِدُ
She says: Behold, one far away has drawn near;
It says behold a refugee draws near
may newly gained and inherited wealth be his ransom!
A generous man ransoms him, constant still

A brother—our mother was not his mother,
A brother though not of the same mother
yet we have one and the same father.
But our father was one and the same

Hatim came to my rescue out of compassion;
Hatem's kindness came to my aid
and what a fine guardian and father!
What an excellent guardian and father!
