لَحاكَmay He curse you اللَهُGod ياO شَرَّworst of المَطاياthe mounts
لَحاكَ اللَهُ يا شَرَّ المَطايا
أَمِنis it from بابِthe gate of المُهَلَّبِal-Muhallab تَنفِريناyou shy away
أَمِن بابِ المُهَلَّبِ تَنفِرينا
May God curse you, O worst of mounts!
May God destroy you, O most evil of beasts,
Is it from al-Muhallab’s gate that you shy away?
Do you frighten us from the gate of torture?
فَلولاfor, were it not for أَنَّنيthat I am رَجُلٌa man طِريدٌa fugitive
فَلولا أَنَّني رَجُلٌ طِريدٌ
لَكُستِyou would surely hobble عَلىon ثَلاثٍthree legs تَنعَبيناyou move with your neck outstretched
لَكُستِ عَلى ثَلاثٍ تَنعَبينا
For were I not a fugitive man,
If I were not a persecuted man,
You would surely hobble on three legs, your neck outstretched.
I would have pierced you in three places and torn you apart.
