And hollowed eyes with weeping and made them shed tears,
And eyes shed copious tears as he wailed,

On the morning a death-announcer called from Talfum’s summit:
When from Tel'aum's peak sounded his cry -
“May the All-Merciful have mercy on Salm ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿ!”
May God show mercy to Salam ibn Sasa'!

And a caller answered him from Naʿiṭ’s summit,
A voice from Na't's peak made reply,
Then the two mighty mountains rang out in answer with voice and echo.
And the hills echoed back the sound.
