لَحاmay curse اللَهُGod زَبّانَZabbān مِنas شاعِرٍa poet
لَحا اللَهُ زَبّانَ مِن شاعِرٍ
أَخيa man of خَنعَةٍbaseness غادِرٍtreacherous فاجِرِwicked
أَخي خَنعَةٍ غادِرٍ فاجِرِ
May God curse Zabbān as a poet,
May God destroy the tongue of a poet,
a man of baseness, treacherous and wicked.
My brother, who is cowardly, treacherous and immoral,
كَأَنَّكَas though you were فُقّاحَةٌa blossom نَوَّرَتhas flowered
كَأَنَّكَ فُقّاحَةٌ نَوَّرَت
مَعَwith الصُبحِthe dawn فيin طَرَفِthe edge of الحائِرِthe pool
مَعَ الصُبحِ في طَرَفِ الحائِرِ
You are like a blossom that has flowered
As if you were a loud-mouthed woman who shone
with the dawn at the pool’s edge.
At dawn on the edge of the encampment
