إذا ما لقيت الباهلي وجدته

إذا ما لقيت الباهلي وجدته

أشح على الزاد الخبيث من الكلب

أشح على الزاد الخبيث من الكلب

Whenever you meet the Bāhilī, you find him

Whenever you meet the Bahili, you will find him

more miserly with his wretched provisions than a dog.

More miserly with his foul provisions than a dog.

لعمر التي روتك يا ابن مجالد

لعمر التي روتك يا ابن مجالد

ودلتك بعد الطلق من عقم رحب

ودلتك بعد الطلق من عقم رحب

By my life, the woman who nursed you, O son of Mujālid,

By the life of her who quenched your thirst, O son of Mujalid,

and bore you after labor from a spacious womb,

And lowered you after labor pains from a spacious womb,

لتقتبسن نيران حرب مديرة

لتقتبسن نيران حرب مديرة

بعيد مداها لا تدور على العضب

بعيد مداها لا تدور على العضب

shall surely catch the flames of a war sweeping onward,

You shall surely take fire from the flames of a whirling war,

far-reaching in its course, never turning back on its heels.

Far-reaching, not waged with the keen-edged sword.
