If you make helplessness your home, my resolve remains with me.

Death may come by night to one wedded to sleep.

And sustenance is ordained, yet it is allied to effort,

And to seeking that supplies the means and yields results.

And the bucket does not reach the watering pools

Except by twisting ropes and winding them tight.

Wealth is nothing but my fire-striker and my fire-stick,

And my repeated draughts of night travel and my swift riding

    مُحرِزِ إِرثِ الحمدِ وَاِسمِ الحَمدِ

    To Humayd, bounty's haven,

    Who has secured praise's heritage and praise's name;

To him who set the pattern for building glory

In every lowland and every highland.

His endeavors have exhausted all reckoning.

He has, on every hillock and in every hollow,

A cloud that enriches, and another that destroys.

Like Time, now he assails, now he lends aid,

And he becomes a landmark and guides the way.
