Leave the world, for the world has its people.

Life's sweetest pleasure: a pitcher and a cup,

And a clear wine, gentle on the head,

    Yet restive in the soul.

As though the drinking companion's hand passed round some of it—

A ray of light no cup can contain.

An aged wine that shines when mixed,

So a fire-seeker can take a flame from it.

It is mistaken for drowsiness in its drinker's eye,

Yet his only drowsiness is wine.

    وَهَل في مَطلَعِ الشَمسِ اِلتِباسُ

    He rose above men, so he cannot be hidden;

And is there any mistaking the sun at its rising?
