أَقاموا الدَيدَبانَ عَلى يَفاعٍ

أَقاموا الدَيدَبانَ عَلى يَفاعٍ

وَقالوا لا تَنَم لِلديدَبانِ

وَقالوا لا تَنَم لِلديدَبانِ

They stationed the lookout on high ground,

And said to the lookout, “Do not sleep.

فَإِن آنَستَ شَخصاً مِن بَعيدٍ

فَإِن آنَستَ شَخصاً مِن بَعيدٍ

فَصَفِّن بِالبَنانِ عَلى البَنانِ

فَصَفِّن بِالبَنانِ عَلى البَنانِ

For if you spot a figure from afar,

Then tap fingertip against fingertip.”

تَراهُم خَشيَةَ الأَضيافِ خُرساً

تَراهُم خَشيَةَ الأَضيافِ خُرساً

وَيَأتونَ الصَلاةَ بِلا أَذانِ

وَيَأتونَ الصَلاةَ بِلا أَذانِ

You see them mute for fear of guests,

And they come to prayer without a call to prayer.
