وَأَرىand I see اللَياليthe nights ماwhat طَوَتhave taken away مِنfrom قُوَّتيmy strength
وَأَرى اللَيالي ما طَوَت مِن قُوَّتي
زادَتهُhave added it فيto عَقليmy intellect وَفيand to إِفهاميmy ability to explain
زادَتهُ في عَقلي وَفي إِفهامي
And I see that what the nights have taken from my strength
And I see the nights have folded away my strength
They have added to my intellect and my ability to explain.
Increasing it in my intellect and understanding
وَعَلِمتُand I learned أَنَّthat المَرءَman مِنin relation to سُنَنpaths الرَدىdeath
وَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ المَرءَ مِن سُنَن الرَدى
حَيثُwhere الرَمِيَّةُthe quarry مِنin relation to سِهامِarrows الراميthe archer
حَيثُ الرَمِيَّةُ مِن سِهامِ الرامي
And I learned that man stands in death’s paths
And I learned that for a person, decline is destiny’s way
As quarry stands in the path of the archer’s arrows.
