كَللتyou crowned تاجdiadem البَدرthe full moon قرباthrough nearness بِالشَرَفْwith honor
كَللت تاج البَدر قربا بِالشَرَفْ
مُذsince حَلalighted فيin مِصرٍEgypt ركابكyour cavalcade وَاِنعَطَفand turned
مُذ حَل في مِصرٍ ركابك وَاِنعَطَف
You crowned the full moon's diadem with honor through your nearness,
The crescent moon's crown drew near in glory
since your cavalcade alighted in Egypt and turned toward her.
When your ship landed in Egypt and turned about
طَرَبَتrejoiced بِمَقدَمِكَat your arrival السَنىradiant وَعطفهand its grace
طَرَبَت بِمَقدَمِكَ السَنى وَعطفه
مِصرEgypt السَعيدَةhappy وَالسُرورُand joy بِهat it هَتَفcried out
مِصر السَعيدَة وَالسُرورُ بِه هَتَف
Your radiant arrival and its grace delighted
Egypt the blessed was delighted by your arrival
happy Egypt, and joy cried out for it.
And cried out in joy at your coming
لِماwhen عَزَمَتshe resolved عَزمتresolved بِصَحبِكَwith your company الثَنىpraise
لِما عَزَمَت عَزمت بِصَحبِكَ الثَنى
وَالعودُand the return جددrenewed بِالهَناwith joy ماwhat قَدalready سَلَفhad gone before
وَالعودُ جدد بِالهَنا ما قَد سَلَف
When she resolved, praise resolved to join your company.
When you were determined to come here
And the return renewed with joy what had gone before.
The lute sang anew with delight at your return
وَاِزينتand adorned herself بكرmaiden الحَبورof joy وَأَصبَحَتand became
وَاِزينت بكر الحَبور وَأَصبَحَت
بِجلوةin bridal display بَينَamid الرَفاهَةِcomfort وَالتَرَفand luxury
بِجلوة بَينَ الرَفاهَةِ وَالتَرَف
And joy's maiden adorned herself and appeared
And dawn adorned the pyramids and they became
in bridal display amid comfort and luxury.
Radiant, mid luxury and comfort
وَتَجَمَّلَتand adorned herself مِصرEgypt بِماwith what جادَbestowed generously الهَناhappiness
وَتَجَمَّلَت مِصر بِما جادَ الهَنا
وَرَخيمand mellow مطرrain بِهاin her عَلىover عودِa lute عَكفlingered
وَرَخيم مطر بِها عَلى عودِ عَكف
And Egypt adorned herself with what happiness bestowed.
Egypt was beautified by the Nile’s generosity
And mellow rain lingered there over a lute.
And fertile rain poured on its bending branch
وَبِكَand through you الاِمانيhopes قَدindeed تَبَسَّمsmiled ثَغرُهاtheir mouth
وَبِكَ الاِماني قَد تَبَسَّم ثَغرُها
وَالصَفوand serenity مالَswayed بِقدهwith its figure حُسنُbeauty الهَيفof slenderness
وَالصَفو مالَ بِقده حُسنُ الهَيف
And through you, the lips of hopes have smiled.
With you, its hopes have smiled
And serenity's figure swayed with beautiful slenderness.
And the morning sunlight shines on its graceful palms
وَتَراقَصَتand danced مهجhearts النُفوسِof souls لِبشرهاat their gladness
وَتَراقَصَت مهج النُفوسِ لِبشرها
كَبَلابِلَlike nightingales غَرَّدنَthey warbled فيin رَوضa meadow أَنفfresh and untouched
كَبَلابِلَ غَرَّدنَ في رَوض أَنف
And the souls' hearts danced at their gladness,
The hearts’ passions danced
like nightingales warbling in a fresh meadow.
Like nightingales singing in a garden
أَضحىcame to be بِقَولwith a saying بسعدthrough the good fortune of بابِكَyour gate نَيلُهاher Nile
أَضحى بِقَول بسعد بابِكَ نَيلُها
أَقبَلَapproach عَلىtoward بَحرthe sea الوَفاءِof fidelity وَلاand do not تَخَفfear
أَقبَلَ عَلى بَحر الوَفاءِ وَلا تَخَف
Her Nile, blessed by your gate, began to say:
The Nile at your gate says with joy
“Approach the sea of fidelity, and have no fear.”
It flows to the sea of loyalty, have no fear
وَاللَهُby God ياO مِصباحlamp مشكاةniche العلىof lofty glory
وَاللَهُ يا مِصباح مشكاة العلى
بِكَthrough you سَرَتwas gladdened الدُنياthe world وَمنand whoever فيهاin it شَغَفwas enraptured
بِكَ سَرَت الدُنيا وَمن فيها شَغَف
By God, O lamp in the niche of lofty glory,
O lamp of the sublime celestial sphere
through you the world rejoiced, and all within it were enraptured.
You brought joy to the world and all who yearn
رَقمتshe inscribed جَمالbeauty بِهاin her قُدومِكَyour arrival عصمةIsmat
رَقمت جَمال بِها قُدومِكَ عصمة
بِمدادwith ink تحبيرof embellishment سَناهits radiance شَفىhealed وَشفand shone through
بِمداد تحبير سَناه شَفى وَشف
Ismat inscribed in her the beauty of your arrival,
Your beauty marked an age of security
with the ink of embellishment, whose radiance healed and shone through.
With the ink of veneration, wellness and healing
وَبِمِعجَمand with dotted letters فيin معربclear Arabic wording قَدindeed أَرخَتshe recorded the date
وَبِمِعجَم في معرب قَد أَرخَت
كللتyou crowned تاجdiadem البَدرthe full moon قُرباthrough nearness بِالشَرَفwith honor
كللت تاج البَدر قُربا بِالشَرَف
And with dotted letters in clear Arabic, she recorded the date:
And with a dictionary in translation
“You crowned the full moon's diadem with honor through your nearness.”
You crowned the crescent moon in glory
